We are seeking a senior talent leader to drive executive talent assessments and oversee leadership hiring processes across our portfolio companies (Industry Agnostic). This individual will own the end-to-end executive talent process, partnering with Deal Teams, portfolio company leadership, co-sponsors, other stakeholders, and external search firms to ensure high-quality hiring outcomes. In addition, this individual will drive Thesis Driven Executive Sourcing. In this capacity, utilizing the Star Mounting Trust network, LinkedIn, and other resources, he/she will be responsible for finding and vetting potential CEO, Advisory, and/or Board candidates, based on a formed investment thesis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess CEOs and senior leadership teams pre- and post-investment
  • Evaluate talent against company strategy, stage, and value creation plans; identify gaps and recommend actions
  • Define hiring needs and develop role specifications and candidate profiles
  • Select and manage external executive search firms
  • Lead the end-to-end search process, including pipeline review, interview design, and final candidate evaluation
  • Conduct initial screening and assess candidates for capability, fit, and execution potential
  • Provide structured, objective feedback to stakeholders
  • Partner with investment teams, portfolio company leadership, and recruiters as a trusted advisor
  • Standardize and improve executive hiring processes, frameworks, and best practices across the portfolio
  • Ensure consistency, speed, and quality across all searches
  • Report search status monthly to the Talent Committee co-chairs

Qualifications

  • 15+ years in executive search, talent leadership, or human capital consulting
  • Strong experience leading senior-level hiring processes in complex or high-stakes environments
  • Private equity experience or exposure strongly preferred
  • Exceptional judgment in assessing executive talent
  • Deep relationships and experience managing search firms and end-to-end hiring processes, utilizing boutique and 2nd and tier firms.
  • Strong project management and ability to run multiple searches simultaneously
  • Highly structured, detail-oriented, and process-driven with a bias towards action
  • High executive presence with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Backgrounds may include senior executive search leader, Head of Talent/TA, or human capital advisor

  • Quality and performance of executive hires
  • Efficiency and rigor of hiring processes
  • Stakeholder satisfaction (deal teams and portfolio leadership)
  • Reduction in failed hires / re-searches
  • Train and reinforce the consistency of talent assessment across the portfolio utilizing the SMC Talent Management Framework

Compensation

The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and performance during the selection process. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and other economics. Total compensation may vary by role, location, department, and individual performance. The firm is 100% employee owned providing for material economic wealth creation opportunity.
