Position Summary

The Product Development Manager leads end-to-end development of formulas and packaging, ensuring timely launches and high-performing, on-brand products. This role partners closely with Founders and the PD Director to bring new concepts to market and continuously improve the existing portfolio.


Key Responsibilities:


Project Management

  • Own and manage multiple development timelines from concept through launch
  • Ensure milestones, budgets, and launch dates are consistently met
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers, driving clear and efficient communication
  • Lead regular status meetings and provide concise updates to internal stakeholders
  • Identify risks early and proactively troubleshoot to maintain progress
  • Maintain accurate trackers, feedback logs, and product documentation

Formula Development

  • Oversee formulation development to meet performance, safety, and clean standards
  • Develop clear briefs informed by benchmarks, trends, and product objectives
  • Manage submissions, testing, and cross-functional feedback
  • Partner with labs, manufacturers, and fragrance houses
  • Lead approvals from initial samples through final formula and pilot

Packaging Development

  • Source and develop packaging aligned with brand standards, functionality, and sustainability goals
  • Act as the liaison between Founder-led creative direction and designers, ensuring execution aligns with brand standards and regulatory requirements
  • Manage sampling, feedback, and approvals through production
  • Identify opportunities in existing packaging to improve cost, design, and user experience

Innovation & Strategy

  • Support development of the product pipeline and long-term roadmap
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging technologies
  • Translate insights into actionable product concepts and opportunities

Regulatory & Testing

  • Ensure compliance across target markets and retail partners
  • Coordinate testing (stability, compatibility, claims) and integrate into development timelines

Cost Management

  • Maintain alignment with COG targets
  • Support supplier negotiations to optimize cost and value

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, Production, and Customer Service to support successful launches
  • Lead product briefs, sampling needs, and retailer support materials
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives as needed in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3–5 years of experience in beauty/personal care product development
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills; project management qualifications a plus
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills
  • Flexible and adaptable; comfortable shifting priorities and stepping into cross-functional and administrative work as needed in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Passion for body & personal care products coupled with a desire to bring taboo & often ignored body concerns to light!
