Founder's Office Volunteer
Open Library on Green Economy (OLGE)
Volunteer Role | Remote | ~1 hour per day
About OLGE
The Open Library on Green Economy (OLGE) is a nonprofit knowledge initiative being built as a public good. Its purpose is to make sustainability, climate, and green economy knowledge more accessible, usable, and grounded in real-world contexts. OLGE is currently in its early institutional phase, where careful thinking, steady execution, and attention to detail matter as much as vision.
Purpose of the Role
The Founder’s Office Volunteer supports the foundational work required to build OLGE as a credible, long-term institution. This role sits close to the core of the initiative and involves a mix of research, coordination, documentation, and follow-through. Some tasks will be intellectually engaging, others repetitive or administrative, but all are important to building something durable.
Nature of Engagement
This is a volunteer role for individuals who value contributing to meaningful work even when it is not always visible or exciting. The role requires discretion, reliability, and the ability to work independently. All engagement is remote, with flexibility around when the daily hour is contributed.
Time Commitment
• Approximately 1 hour per day, on most days of the week
• Flexibility is supported, but consistency and follow-through are essential
Responsibilities
Founder’s Office Volunteers may be involved in a combination of the following activities:
- Research & Analysis
Support background research on sustainability topics, institutions, funding landscapes, policies, and comparable initiatives, and summarise findings clearly.
- Event Research & Organisation
Support the team with Events if needed. Offline or Online.
- Documentation & Organisation
Help draft, organise, and maintain internal documents, notes, trackers, and reference materials required for smooth functioning.
- Operational Support
Assist with coordination tasks, follow-ups, scheduling support, and other routine but necessary work that keeps the initiative moving.
- Problem-Solving & Initiative
Apply judgement to figure things out when processes are not yet defined, and flag gaps, risks, or improvements thoughtfully.
- Execution of Repetitive Tasks
Take responsibility for mundane or repetitive tasks with care and accuracy, understanding their importance to institutional quality.
What OLGE Provides
• First-hand exposure to how an early-stage nonprofit knowledge institution is built
• Opportunities to engage with sustainability, policy, and green economy work at a structural level
• Clear expectations and honest communication about scope and priorities
• A working environment that values seriousness, integrity, and quiet competence
• Acknowledgement of contributions on OLGE platforms and internal records
Pathway to a Formal Role
As OLGE secures funding and formalises its team structure, there may be opportunities to transition sustained, high-quality volunteer contributions into formal or paid roles, depending on organisational needs. While this cannot be guaranteed, consistent and thoughtful work is recognised and valued.
Ideal Profile
This role may suit individuals who:
• Are comfortable handling both thinking-intensive and routine work
• Can work independently and follow through without constant supervision
• Are organised, patient, and detail-oriented
• Are curious, willing to learn, and not deterred by ambiguity
• Value building something well over quick visibility or recognition
Prior experience in sustainability is helpful but not required. What matters most is reliability, judgement, and a willingness to do work that is important even when it is not glamorous.
Tenure
• Flexible and open-ended, with a suggested minimum commitment of three months
• The role can be concluded at any time with prior notice
Working Ethos
The Founder’s Office exists to reduce noise, not create it. This role is built around responsibility, trust, and care for the long-term health of the institution.
