Description
The Director of Social Media leads the development and execution of comprehensive social media strategies for agency clients across multiple platforms and industries. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, overseeing content creation, community management, paid social campaigns, and analytics while managing a team of social media specialists. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in social platforms, content trends, influencer partnerships, and data-driven optimization to drive measurable results for clients.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategy & Planning
- Develop comprehensive social media strategies aligned with client business objectives and brand positioning
- Conduct social media audits and competitive analyses to identify opportunities and gaps
- Define KPIs, success metrics, and reporting frameworks for each client account
- Stay current on platform updates, algorithm changes, emerging trends, and best practices across all major social channels
- Identify and recommend new platforms and tactics to keep clients ahead of industry trends
- Create annual and quarterly social media roadmaps for client accounts
Content & Creative Direction
- Lead development of compelling, on-brand content across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube, and emerging platforms
- Oversee content calendars, ensuring consistent posting schedules and strategic content mix
- Collaborate with creative team to produce high-quality visual and video content optimized for each platform
- Guide tone, voice, and messaging to maintain brand consistency while adapting to platform-specific audiences
- Develop content frameworks and templates that can be scaled across multiple clients
Account Management & Client Relations
- Serve as primary social media strategist for assigned client accounts
- Present strategies, campaigns, and performance reports to clients with confidence and insight
- Translate client feedback and objectives into actionable social media tactics
- Manage client expectations and proactively identify opportunities for growth
- Collaborate with PR, creative, and integrated marketing teams to ensure cohesive campaigns
Community Management & Engagement
- Oversee community management across all client social channels, ensuring timely and on-brand responses
- Develop engagement strategies to grow follower base and increase meaningful interactions
- Monitor brand mentions, sentiment, and conversations across social platforms
- Handle crisis management and sensitive situations with professionalism and quick thinking
- Build and nurture relationships with influencers, content creators and community members
Paid Social & Performance Marketing
- Plan, execute, and optimize paid social campaigns across Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other platforms
- Manage social advertising budgets, pacing, and performance optimization
- Conduct A/B testing on ad creative, targeting, and messaging to improve ROI
- Collaborate with media planning team on integrated paid strategies
- Analyze campaign performance and provide data-driven recommendations for optimization
Influencer & Partnership Management
- Identify and vet influencers and content creators aligned with client brand values
- Negotiate partnerships, contracts, and deliverables with influencers and their representatives
- Manage influencer campaigns from concept through execution and reporting
- Track influencer performance metrics and ROI
- Build and maintain relationships with talent agencies and influencer management firms
Analytics & Reporting
- Track, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics across all platforms
- Create comprehensive monthly and quarterly reports with actionable insights
- Use analytics tools (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, native platform analytics) to measure campaign effectiveness
- Identify trends, patterns, and opportunities based on performance data
- Translate data into strategic recommendations for continuous improvement
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and mentor social media managers, coordinators, and specialists
- Provide guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities for team members
- Assign client accounts and projects based on team strengths and capacity
- Foster a collaborative, creative, and results-driven team culture
- Conduct performance reviews and support career growth for direct reports
Tool & Platform Management
- Oversee social media management platforms (e.g., Sprout Social)
- Manage asset libraries, content repositories, and workflow systems
- Ensure proper tracking, tagging, and UTM implementation for campaign measurement
- Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to improve efficiency
Process & Best Practices
- Establish and document social media processes, workflows, and best practices across the agency
- Create training materials and conduct internal workshops on social media trends and tactics
- Develop crisis communication protocols for social media incidents
- Ensure compliance with platform policies, FTC guidelines, and client brand standards
- Maintain quality control across all client social media output
Business Development & Growth
- Support new business pitches with social media strategies and case studies
- Identify upsell and expansion opportunities within existing client accounts
- Contribute to agency thought leadership through speaking, writing, or industry participation
- Stay informed on competitor offerings and industry pricing models
Qualifications
- 5+ years of social media strategy, management, or marketing experience with proven track record of developing and executing integrated social campaigns
- Expertise in social platform dynamics (Meta, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) and understanding of algorithm changes, best practices, and platform-native content
- Experience with social media analytics tools, performance measurement, and ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to develop content strategies that align with business objectives and brand voice; experience managing creators, influencers, or internal content teams
- Strong understanding of real-time marketing, community management, and crisis communication on social platforms
- Experience with consumer/lifestyle brands and demonstrated success with paid social advertising, influencer partnerships, and organic growth strategies

Salary Range: $90-$95k
