This position can be office-based or hybrid with up to 2 days off-site (preferred) in Vancouver or Toronto, but can also be remote based on the candidate’s location, seniority, and preference.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our timber specialty team is growing, and we’re looking for a CAD Design Technician to join our passionate, talented team in one of our Canadian offices (Toronto or Vancouver). Our ideal candidate has a precise understanding of developing fabrication models and shop drawing packages and is enthusiastic about leading projects, mentoring Junior Technicians, and building strong team environments.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Utilize a solid understanding of architectural and structural designs to create fabrication models and drawings.
- Develop 3D models and shop drawings, to a fabrication level of detail, according to Aspect’s project quality standards
- Coordinate and incorporate various Mass Timber suppliers’ desired parameters for fabrication, shipping, and installation
- Attend consultant and client meetings at the direction and discretion of the Project Manager
- Contribute to the team’s technical knowledge
- Collaborate with team members across other offices and roles in a dynamic environment
- Contribute to a fun and welcoming work environment.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- 2-5+ years of experience in fabrication design or a similar role, preferably with residential, commercial, and institutional projects
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting structural engineering plans and details
- Strong Cadwork skills in 2D and 3D, including the various export processes and set-up
- Solid understanding of mass timber construction practices
- Good understanding of other relevant trades
- A keen eye for aesthetics and an appreciation for clear and well-coordinated drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective at engaging with clients and colleagues via email, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently, seeking support as necessary
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
EXTRA AWESOME
- Be up to speed on the latest Cadwork tools and updates
- Experience with Revit model and drawing production
- Experience with Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper, or other parametric modeling experience
- Familiar with BIM360, Tekla Structures
- Hands-on experience with on-site Mass Timber installation or fabrication.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE
- Base Salary CAD $65,000 – $80,000 (will be commensurate with skillset and experience).
