Call Outs:

Location: Remote with occasional travel to office

General Microsoft experience and prior communications experience, such as journalism, Corporate Communications, product communications, etc. Preference for some technical writing knowledge as it will help with the position. Knowledge in IT Transformations is also helpful.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Lead communications planning for major IT initiatives, ensuring clear, timely, and consistent messaging
  • Translate complex technical changes into clear, actionable messaging for diverse employee audiences
  • Advise project and IT leaders on communication strategy, timing, and risk related to change impacts
  • Oversee development and delivery of multi-channel communications (email, intranet, toolkits, signage, alerts)
  • Ensure messaging aligns with enterprise standards, brand voice, and change management best practices
  • Coordinate reviews and approvals across IT, Corporate Communications, HR, trusted partners, and leadership
  • Monitor feedback and adoption risks, adjusting communication approach as needed

Purpose

This role is responsible for developing and executing internal and external communication strategies and deliverables that align to the goals of the implementation of AMI meters and systems. The person in this position will partner with managers, directors, executives, and a variety of stakeholders across the business to ensure that the content being distributed to employees and customers is delivered and optimized in a way that drives engagement and a positive customer experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provides proactive, effective communications support, counsel, and strategic planning to AMI management team. Requires regular attendance at management meetings, learning the AMI workstreams and communications challenges, developing internal and external stories and other communications about initiatives/programs for various audiences (employees, customers, media, community), and managing a team of communication and marketing specialists.
  • Partner closely with meter deployment operations and ombudsman to develop and execute integrated communications plans in alignment with deployment operations. Customer notifications must comply with communication plans filed and/or approved by the KYPSC.
  • Plans, edits, and writes content for a variety of employee communications vehicles, including change network groups, project team members, stakeholder groups, and executives.
  • Works closely with other Communications functions and the company’s lines of business to ensure accurate and consistent messaging to enhance the customer experience.
  • Reviews and monitors mail-house vendor performance and implements changes when necessary to improve performance.
  • Prepares, monitors, and updates AMI communications budget and project plan.
  • Maintains day-to-day contact with agencies and freelance contractors to establish timetables; specifies/verifies print, visual, audio, and video designs and media schedules; and monitors deadlines.
  • Prepares presentations, scripts, displays, visuals, and slides.
  • Maintains materials and customer lists in compliance with the company’s record retention policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field.
  • Six or more years of experience in corporate communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate ideas into clear, compelling messaging.
  • Strong ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence across all levels and functions.
  • AP style proficient
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks for several projects at the same time, often on short timelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LKE project experience
  • Change communication experience
  • Management experience
