About ERA

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a Canadian non-profit organization founded in 2004. We are ISO-certified (27001, 9001, 14001, 45001) and dedicated to reducing e-waste while bridging the digital divide. We collect, securely wipe or destroy data from, refurbish, and donate computers, laptops, servers, and other IT equipment to charities, schools, and community organizations across Canada. With depots and pickup services in major cities from Vancouver to Halifax, ERA combines environmental responsibility, data security excellence, and community impact.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an influential, industry-respected leader to join our Board of Directors in a paid advisory capacity. This is not a traditional volunteer board seat — it is a compensated strategic role for a seasoned executive who will actively help shape ERA’s future.

As a Board Member with CIO-level expertise, you will provide high-impact guidance on technology strategy, data security innovation, IT asset management best practices, and network expansion. You will leverage your industry relationships to strengthen and grow ERA’s national and international partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the leadership team and board on IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, data destruction standards, and emerging technologies in e-waste management.
  • Help expand and optimize our national network of depots, corporate partners, charities, and refurbishment partners.
  • Provide strategic input on operational scalability, digital transformation, and new revenue/diversification opportunities.
  • Open doors to new corporate, government, and non-profit relationships that advance our mission.
  • Participate in quarterly board meetings and be available for ad-hoc strategic consultations (estimated 4–8 hours per month).

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven CIO, CTO, or equivalent senior technology executive experience in IT asset disposition, e-waste recycling, data center operations, cybersecurity, or related industries.
  • Strong existing network in technology, sustainability, circular economy, or non-profit sectors.
  • Demonstrated success scaling operations, building partnerships, and driving innovation.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability, digital inclusion, and responsible IT asset management.
  • Board-level experience or readiness (previous board service is a strong asset).
  • Ability to think strategically and act as a true ambassador for ERA.

This is an ideal role for a forward-thinking leader who wants to make a meaningful impact while receiving fair compensation for their expertise and network value.

Why Join ERA’s Board?

  • Be part of a purpose-driven organization that has diverted millions of pounds of e-waste from landfills and enabled thousands of people to access technology.
  • Receive competitive pay for your strategic contributions.
  • Gain satisfaction from directly improving lives and the environment while leveraging your industry influence.
